One dead, 5 missing, over 200 rescued after ferry fire near Bali, Indonesia

A 19-year-old Indonesian teenager was killed after a passenger vessel caught fire in rough seas on Wednesday, August 12.

A total of 211 people were rescued and brought ashore by vessels that rushed to the scene, including a navy ship and another nearby ferry. A navy vessel and other ships evacuated 172 of those people, including two Australian tourists.

Authorities have visually confirmed that no passengers remain on the burning ferry, although they are still confirming the total number of individuals.

This incident occurred less than a month after another ferry caught fire off Madura island, an event that killed five people.
