A White House staffer is under investigation for allegedly using inside knowledge of President Donald Trump's speeches to win more than $100,000 on prediction markets. Gabriel Perez, a technical assistant who has operated the president's teleprompter since 2016, is accused of betting on specific words or phrases that would be used in major speeches.

The investigation was triggered after the prediction market Kalshi detected suspicious activity on Perez's account. After conducting its own investigation, Kalshi referred the case to federal regulators. This is the first known instance of officials investigating suspected insider trading on a prediction market from within the White House.

The White House reported that President Trump called the situation deeply unfortunate and frankly a disgrace.
