Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella has called on US President Donald Trump to suspend tariffs on Colombian goods as the nation grapples with the aftermath of a devastating earthquake. The 7.4 magnitude quake struck the western cities of Cali and Pereira, killing nearly 300 people.
Reconstruction efforts following the disaster are expected to cost approximately $6.4 billion. However, Colombia has been hit by renewed US tariffs on Colombian products, which rose from 10 per cent to 12.5 per cent in late July.
President de la Espriella, an ally of Donald Trump, assumed office earlier this month just days before the earthquake struck.
