UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has stated there are strong indications that Iran played a part in a security incident that occurred Sunday near RAF Fairford. The airbase is used by the U.S. Air Force as a command outpost for operations in Europe and for strikes on Iranian missile sites.
The incident involved three white vans appearing to head toward the base in the early hours of Sunday. Five men were arrested on suspicion of plotting a terrorist act. While police found petrol at the scene, no explosives were recovered.
The five suspects have since been released on the strictest possible bail conditions. Iran has rejected any involvement in the incident, with its embassy in London stating it categorically rejects and strongly condemns the speculation.
