Israel Kills Iranian Navy Commander, US Confirms Death

armed conflict defense & military

Israel announced Thursday the death of Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ navy, in an airstrike. Iranian authorities have not yet commented on the reported death.

The US military confirmed the operation, stating that Tangsiri’s death “makes the region safer.” Israel claims Tangsiri was responsible for blocking the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy route carrying approximately a fifth of the world’s oil supply and key liquefied natural gas exports.

Multiple reports confirm the same details regarding the commander’s death and Israel’s justification for the strike.
