The FBI and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service are investigating a series of suspicious mailings sent to state election officials, congressional offices, and related locations across the country. Some of these letters contained an unidentified powdery white substance.

In Louisiana and Oklahoma, the delivery of these envelopes led to evacuations. A similar package containing white powder was also sent to the Ohio secretary of state, but it was intercepted by the U.S. Postal Service.

Federal authorities are urging recipients to treat these mailings as potentially hazardous. These incidents come just weeks before the U.S. midterm elections in November.
