US strikes Iranian radar and coastal sites after intercepting Iranian drones

armed conflict defense & military

The U.S. military shot down four Iranian drones launched toward the Strait of Hormuz on Friday. U.S. Central Command stated that the drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic. In response, U.S. forces carried out strikes on Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites located in Goruk and on Qeshm Island on Friday and Saturday.

Iran's navy reported firing warning missiles and drones at U.S. warships in the Gulf of Oman, accusing the U.S. Navy of harassing maritime traffic and seizing commercial vessels and oil tankers.

These back-and-forth attacks have strained a tenuous ceasefire and are imperiling efforts to reach a peace deal to end the war between the two countries. Additionally, the U.S. military is enforcing a blockade on Iranian ports in response to Tehran’s chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial corridor for global oil and natural gas shipments, which has sent energy prices spiking.
