Colombia secured a place in the World Cup Round of 32 following a 1-0 victory over DR Congo on Tuesday in Guadalajara. Right-back Daniel Munoz emerged as the hero, scoring the decisive goal in the 76th minute from the right side of the penalty area.
The win allows Colombia to qualify for the knockout stage with a match to spare in Group K. After opening the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan, the team now holds six points from two games. Munoz's late strike eventually broke through a stingy DR Congo defense and goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi, who had threatened to make the match a night of frustration.
Colombia coach Nestor Lorenzo praised his side's composure and attacking variety after the tight contest. Lorenzo noted that the team had grown in performance despite the pressure of the match.
