Iran lets Chinese ships through Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions

international relations

Iran has begun allowing some Chinese vessels to transit through the Strait of Hormuz following diplomatic outreach from Beijing and an understanding over Iranian management protocols for the waterway.

According to Iran's revolutionary guard, Chinese-flagged vessels were among over 30 ships that crossed the waterway.

Abbas Araqchi told reporters in New Delhi that all vessels can pass through the Strait of Hormuz except those considered to be at war with Tehran.

These developments come as Trump attempts to rally Beijing against Tehran during a state visit, while the US expressed confidence that Beijing would act to limit material support for Iran.
