Darline Graham was sworn in on Tuesday afternoon to fill the US Senate seat left vacant by the sudden death of her older brother, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. The appointment comes just three days after Graham died unexpectedly over the weekend at age 71.
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed Darline Graham to serve out the remainder of her brother's term.
This appointment maintains the Republicans’ 53-47 majority in the US Senate. As a political novice, she is seen as a placeholder until voters elect a more seasoned candidate.
The late Senator Graham was a chief supporter of Ukraine’s defense and Trump’s war in Iran.
