A 14-year-old pupil was detained following a shooting at Joseph-Lakanal middle school in Aubagne, near Marseille. The suspect brought a hunting rifle into the school, hidden inside a guitar case, and fired several shots in what authorities described as a deadly rampage.

Two teaching staff members, including the principal and a teacher, were shot and wounded during the incident. Police stated that their lives are not in danger, though a third person was grazed in the shooting.

A staff member disarmed the suspect before police arrived on the scene. While the boy has been arrested, the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

French Education Minister Édouard Geffray and police sources indicated that there does not appear to be any link between the shooting and the student protests that have swept across France in recent weeks.
