Iran intends to implement service fees for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, despite objections from Washington. The Iranian ambassador has insisted that these new fees will be charged, while the United States continues to reject the idea of charging for transit through the strait.
According to Iran's ambassador to Beijing, China and other friendly nations will be granted special considerations and treatment when Tehran determines the nature and level of these service fees. China, which buys almost all of Iran's oil exports, has called for the unhindered flow of shipping through the strait.
An initial peace deal allowed ships to transit the strait free of charge for 60 days. However, it remains unclear what regulations will be in place after that period concludes.
