French authorities have confined more than 1,700 passengers and crew members to an Ambassador Cruise Line vessel docked in Bordeaux. The measure was taken on Wednesday as a precaution following an outbreak of gastroenteritis on board. The ship, which arrived on Tuesday, carries 1,233 passengers, the majority of whom are British or Irish.

Officials reported that a 90-year-old passenger has died from a suspected case of norovirus. Additionally, approximately 50 people on board have exhibited symptoms of stomach issues.

While norovirus, a highly contagious form of gastroenteritis, was initially suspected, early tests have ruled it out. Secondary tests are currently underway, and authorities have not excluded the possibility of food poisoning.
