The Israeli military announced Wednesday that it will open internal criminal investigations into the killings of five-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab and 15 emergency and humanitarian aid workers in Gaza. These two high-profile cases, which drew international condemnation and outcry, have been transferred to the military police.
Hind Rajab was killed along with six of her relatives when Israeli troops fired on the family's car, in which they had been trapped and pleading for help in 2024. The separate investigation focuses on the deaths of 15 medics and aid workers that occurred in 2025.
These decisions follow a multiyear review of combat incidents involving civilian deaths and a specific review of 150 incidents concerning the conduct of Israeli troops. Along with the Rajab case, the military has published reviews into four other high-profile incidents in Gaza.
Despite the announcement of these criminal probes, Israeli rights groups have warned that such internal military investigations rarely lead to convictions.
