An Israeli settler was fatally shot on Sunday in the occupied West Bank. Police report that a gunman opened fire from a vehicle at Israelis gathered at a spring near Ramallah. A suspected Palestinian gunman was later located and arrested at a Ramallah hospital.
In a separate incident near Jenin, Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man. The military stated that the motorist was attempting to ram his vehicle into troops. It remains unclear whether these two fatal incidents were connected.
The violence occurred on the eve of Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, as tensions in the territory have grown recently. Israeli military authorities involved with the West Bank have warned the government that the situation is basically out of control.
