The US Supreme Court has for a second time declined to consider President Donald Trump's appeal of a jury verdict that found him liable for sexually abusing and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll. In an unsigned order announced Monday, the court listed the president's petition under rehearings denied without providing an explanation for the decision.
The decision leaves intact a $5 million civil judgment awarded to the former magazine columnist. A jury in 2023 found Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll. This specific verdict concerned statements Trump made in 2022 when he called Carroll's claims a hoax and a con job in a post on social media.
Additionally, Trump and the Justice Department are asking the high court to toss out a second Carroll verdict totaling $83 million.
