Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will not attempt to defend his French Open title next month due to a right wrist injury. The 22-year-old Spaniard and seven-time Grand Slam champion announced on Friday that the injury effectively ends his hopes of a three-peat at Roland Garros.

Alcaraz picked up the injury during the first round of the Barcelona Open earlier in April. In addition to the French Open, he has withdrawn from the Madrid Masters 1000 and announced on X that he will also miss the Italian Open in Rome, a tournament he won last year.

Currently the world number two, Alcaraz recently lost the world number one spot to Jannik Sinner following their final in Monte Carlo.
