US allows limited release of Anthropic's Mythos 5 AI model

The Trump administration and Anthropic PBC have moved closer to an agreement to lift U.S. restrictions on the company’s top two artificial intelligence models. The decision follows weeks of negotiations and talks regarding the security of the systems, de-escalating a clash between the administration and the company over its cutting-edge AI.

Anthropic had previously disabled access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models to comply with a government export control directive citing national security authorities. This two-week restriction had rattled the tech industry.

In a letter from Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, the government announced it is allowing Anthropic to deploy the Mythos 5 model to a select group of trusted partners. The White House has permitted the restoration of access for specific U.S. companies and government agencies.

More than 100 companies and institutions will now have access to the powerful Mythos 5 model.
