President Donald Trump announced that White House Staff Secretary Will Scharf will become the White House's top lawyer. Scharf, a former personal lawyer for the president, will serve as the new White House counsel.
Scharf is set to replace David Warrington in September. Warrington, also a personal attorney for the president, is leaving the administration for the private sector.
In his current role as staff secretary, Scharf oversaw the administrative work of the Oval Office. This appointment reflects one of the biggest changes in senior staff of the president's second term.
