At the center of the dispute is a controversial $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund intended for January 6 defendants. Although Todd Blanche had previously told Congress that the fund was dead, President Donald Trump has reversed course, defending the proposal and threatening to push hard to keep the fund active.
Senators Cornyn and Tillis are seeking written confirmation that the Justice Department will not establish the fund. Despite this opposition, Trump has asserted that Blanche should be immediately approved as U.S. Attorney General.
