President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is in Canada for talks with Prime Minister Mark Carney. The two leaders met in Calgary, Alberta, where the Prime Minister grew up among a large community of people with Ukrainian heritage. Zelenskyy also addressed federal cabinet members gathered in Banff.
During the visit, Canada pledged to deepen its alliance with Ukraine by offering support to boost air defenses and replenish drone stocks. This effort is part of a multi-nation tour Zelenskyy is conducting to shore up air defenses ahead of winter.
Ukraine is currently under mounting pressure from an intensifying Russian air campaign utilizing ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones to pierce defenses. Moscow has specifically targeted Ukraine's power grid in a campaign that officials say is designed to demoralize civilians before winter.
Commenting on the bond between the two countries, Carney stated that Ukrainians helped build Canada and pledged that Canada will help rebuild Ukraine when peace comes.
