The United States government and the State Department are planning a limited-edition redesign of the American passport to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the nation's independence from a monarchy. Scheduled for release in July, these passports will feature a portrait of President Donald Trump on the inside cover.
The design will place the president's likeness alongside text from the Declaration of Independence and motifs of the US flag, with his signature rendered in gold. A separate page in the document will display the famous painting of the founding fathers signing the Declaration of Independence.
There will be no extra charge for these special edition passports, which are part of broader plans to celebrate the milestone anniversary. Currently, the only presidents featured in US passports appear in a double-page depiction of Mount Rushmore.
This move follows other efforts to incorporate the president's likeness and name into US institutions and documents. President Trump has already added his face to National Park passes and his name to the Kennedy Center.
