A 35-year-old woman is in critical condition after being bitten by a shark at Coogee Beach on Saturday. The attack occurred approximately 100 feet from the shore of the popular Sydney beach.

Lifeguard Charlie Verco witnessed the incident while on his paddleboard, reporting that he saw an 11-foot shark emerge and attack the swimmer. Verco was able to save the woman following the attack.

The woman sustained critical injuries to her arm and leg and was transported by road to St Vincent’s hospital. This incident is the latest in a spate of shark attacks in Australia.
