Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, aged 15 years and 99 days, made his senior international debut for India during Saturday's second Twenty20 International against England at Old Trafford. In doing so, the batting prodigy became the youngest player to represent India's senior men's team, surpassing the long-standing record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who was 16 years and 205 days old when he made his test debut in 1989.
Sooryavanshi also set a record as the youngest player to feature in a top-tier men's T20, surpassing Ireland's Joshua Little, who was 16 years and 309 days old on his debut. He was selected for the tour of Ireland and England after being voted the MVP of the 2026 Indian Premier League, where he scored 776 runs in 16 innings. For this match, he replaced Sanju Samson in India's only change since the first match of the series, which was abandoned due to rain in Durham.
Despite the historic debut, England secured a four-wicket victory in the match, guided by Jacob Bethell. England made two changes to their lineup, with Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue replacing Saqib Mahmood and Luke Wood. While Sooryavanshi has set new milestones for India, Hasan Raza of Pakistan remains the youngest player in men's international cricket, having debuted at 14 years and 227 days in 1996.
