Mexico defeated the Czech Republic 3-0 in their final Group A match of the World Cup. Although the co-hosts had already booked their spot in the last 32 as group winners, the victory marked the first time Mexico has won all three of its group-stage matches.
The scoring began early in the second half with Mateo Chavez finding the net in the 55th minute. Six minutes later, Julian Quinones scored his second goal of the tournament in the 61st minute. Mexico secured the win by upping their tempo during the second half.
Coach Javier Aguirre praised his team's mentality following the match. The result leaves the Czech Republic at the bottom of the standings and out of the tournament.
