France has allocated more than €1 billion ($1.16 billion) in aid to support farmers recovering from a brutal summer marked by record-breaking heatwaves, droughts, and wildfires. These extreme weather events caused significant damage to crops, pastures, and water supplies across the European Union's largest agricultural producer.
Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard announced a package of measures to assist hard-hit farms. The allocation includes €520 million for rapid payments to address weather damage, as well as compensation for climate-related crop losses and tax relief.
Additionally, a €235 million recovery fund has been established to help producers prepare next year's crop by purchasing seeds, plants, and animal feed. This support comes as another heatwave is expected to hit the country this week.
