US President Donald Trump concluded a two-day visit to Beijing after meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The summit, described by Xi as a historic landmark in US-China ties, sought to stabilize economic and political relations following a year of heightened trade tensions. Trump characterized the trip as incredible, stating that relations between the two nations are good and getting better.
While Trump hailed the reaching of fantastic trade deals, no sweeping or concrete agreements were officially announced. The president mentioned in a Fox interview that one major business deal involved China agreeing to purchase 200 Boeing jets. However, the US touted trade deals while China said it warned Washington over Taiwan, with neither side confirming the other's claims.
Despite the cordial tone and efforts to extend a truce, deep differences remained regarding Iran, fentanyl, and Taiwan. Discussions about Taiwan unexpectedly dominated the trip, and the two leaders did not resolve their disagreements on these key issues. President Trump departed for Washington following a final private meeting at Xi Jinping’s official residence.
