Ryanair investigated over charging parents to sit with children

The UK's Competition and Markets Authority is conducting a consumer investigation into Ryanair Holdings Plc, Europe’s biggest low-cost airline. The regulator is examining the charges the airline imposes on parents to sit next to their children.

The investigation focuses on whether a mandatory family seat fee is unfair under consumer law. The airline's terms and conditions require at least one parent to sit with their children, including those with disabilities, and bills them about £8 per flight to do so.

The competition watchdog will determine if this mandatory fee constitutes an unfair contract term. Ryanair has called the investigation bogus.
