Trump admin requests $88 billion from Congress for Iran war and other needs

The Trump administration has submitted a supplemental funding package to Congress to help cover the costs of the Iran war. White House Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought requested the billions in extra spending from House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The request totals approximately $67.15 billion for the military, including $21 billion for munitions and other military capabilities, $17.3 billion for operational costs, and $12.1 billion for classified programmes. These funds are intended to replenish the military’s stocks of munitions and cover the cost of deploying forces to the Middle East.

This supplemental request is in addition to some $1 trillion appropriated last year and the $1.5 trillion Trump wants for next year. The request is likely to face an uphill battle in Congress, which voted a day earlier to rein in Trump's war powers.
