A Russian jet-powered drone struck a crowded civilian railway station in Dnipro on Thursday, killing at least 13 people. The attack hit a platform and two passenger trains where passengers were waiting to board. Images released by Ukrainian emergency services showed bodies on the platform and rescuers helping victims to safety.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attack as horrific. Following the strike in Ukraine's third largest city, Zelenskyy urged Kyiv's allies not to ease sanctions on Moscow.
The event comes as Russia and Ukraine have intensified drone and missile attacks in recent months, even as both nations prepare to resume US-mediated peace talks next month.
Meanwhile, a fragile local ceasefire is being upheld in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, where residents have faced months of food, water, and medicine shortages since 2022. While some credit Melania Trump for the local truce, the deadly strike in Dnipro serves as a grim reminder that other communities remain under fire.
