LIV Golf winding down and facing liquidation as backers withdraw support

sports

LIV Golf will liquidate and wind down its operations after failing to secure the necessary financial commitment and player support to relaunch the league. The breakaway circuit, which shook up professional golf in 2022, is moving toward liquidation after a restructuring deal to restart the league fell through.

BC Partners has dropped its proposed 300 million dollar rescue plan to invest in a new version of the league, known as LIV 2.0. The private capital firm decided to withdraw its support after struggling to convince several star players to fully commit to the league going forward.

With insufficient commitments from top golfers to return in 2027, the bankrupt league was unable to secure the financing needed to stay alive. The decision to wind down operations instead of launching a new version follows the collapse of the relaunch attempt and the retraction of support from the financing firm.
