The University of Oxford has launched the world's first clinical trial of a vaccine targeting the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola. This marks a significant milestone in efforts to contain an outbreak of the rare virus strain currently spreading across Congo and Uganda.

The outbreak in central Africa has already killed more than 700 people. The trial seeks to accelerate efforts to combat the spread of the virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

The early-stage trial will enroll 50 healthy adults. Scientists will evaluate the vaccine's safety and the resulting immune response in these participants.
