At least 10 people were killed and dozens more injured on Friday after explosions occurred at a military barracks in the Bolivian municipality of Viacha, about 30 kilometres from La Paz. Local authorities report that seven people are still missing following the blasts.
Officials stated that the explosions originated from the defense ministry's fireworks stockpile stored at the army base.
According to the Bolivian Defence Minister, the first explosion involved black powder from pyrotechnic material stored at the site. A second, much larger blast also occurred, and the exact cause of the events remains under investigation.
