K-pop superstars BTS, the biggest pop act in East Asia, have announced that they will not submit their music, including the Arirang album, for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards. All seven members of the group shared the decision via a joint statement posted on Instagram, confirming their boycott of the ceremony.
The group's decision follows a recent announcement by the Recording Academy regarding five new award categories, which include an award for Best Asian Pop Music Performance. Having been snubbed for nominations in the past, the K-pop powerhouse expressed that they are not interested in competing within this new Asian music category.
Citing concerns over category divisions, the members stated that they hope music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language.
