Lawsuit alleges U.S. shared Iranian asylum seekers' data with Iran

migration & refugees legal proceedings

A lawsuit alleges that the Trump administration is unlawfully divulging confidential personal information of Iranian asylum seekers to the government of Iran. The claim contends that ICE and State Department officials have disclosed sensitive asylum details through monthly meetings held since March 2025.

According to court papers, this sharing of information violates the confidentiality of asylum seekers who applied for protection to avoid grave danger in their native country. The suit argues that these disclosures jeopardize the lives of family members, as well as pro-democracy protesters, religious minorities, and LGBTQ people.

The Iranian American Legal Defense Fund stated that the practice endangers individuals and their families. Additionally, an attorney with the Public Citizen Litigation Group remarked that despite the ongoing war with Iran, the administration appears more committed to mass deportation than to the protection of human lives.
