Israeli strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon have caused multiple casualties despite a ceasefire. On Friday, strikes in the Beqaa region and the southern Tyre and Nabatieh regions killed at least three people and wounded 23. On Sunday, further strikes in southern Lebanon killed at least four people, including two women, with fatalities reported in Arab Salim and Nabatieh al-Fawqa. Other reports indicate at least seven people were killed in the south, with strikes damaging state offices and destroying an out-of-service hospital.
The Israel Defense Forces stated that these operations targeted Hezbollah infrastructure. The military reported that the strikes were retaliation for Hezbollah firing two drones at Israeli soldiers stationed in a designated security zone.
President Joseph Aoun has appealed to the international community to take immediate action to stop these violations of the ceasefire agreement. The President's office described the strikes as a dangerous escalation targeting civilian infrastructure. As negotiations between Lebanese and Israeli officials struggle to make progress, civilians in southern Lebanon continue to pay a heavy price for the ongoing clashes.
