A US humanitarian worker in the Democratic Republic of Congo has tested positive for Ebola and will be sent to Europe for treatment, according to the religious humanitarian aid group Samaritan’s Purse.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it is working with the person's employer, U.S. agencies, Congolese partners, and public health authorities to identify close contacts and prevent further transmission.

Earlier in the outbreak, an American doctor working in Congo also tested positive for the virus and was subsequently transferred to Germany for treatment.

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention stated that the current outbreak is the fastest-growing Ebola outbreak recorded on the continent.
