U.S. President Donald Trump will present the World Cup final trophy on July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium. FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced on the Fox and Friends television programme that he and the president will hand the trophy to the winner together.
Infantino and Trump have forged a close relationship in the buildup to the finals, with the FIFA president stating that they are together all the time. In December, Infantino awarded Trump the inaugural edition of his invented FIFA Peace Prize. However, the U.S. president has made very few public pronouncements concerning the tournament since it began on June 11.
Trump previously presented the trophy to Club World Cup winners Chelsea in the same East Rutherford, New Jersey, stadium, an appearance where he was met with both boos and cheers. He has also attended the NBA Finals, the Ryder Cup golf, and the U.S. Open men's tennis final in the greater New York metropolitan region.
The World Cup is currently underway across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. New York New Jersey is set to host eight matches, including the final.
