Chelsea Reports Record-Breaking Losses

sports football

Chelsea has announced a record pre-tax loss of £262.4 million for the 2024-25 season, the largest annual loss in English soccer history. This surpasses the previous record of £197.5 million held by Manchester City in 2010-11.

The club attributed the losses to increased operating costs compared to the prior year, despite reporting revenue of £490.9 million – the second-highest on record for Chelsea. This revenue included earnings from their Club World Cup title win.

Despite the significant loss, Chelsea confirmed it remains compliant with the Premier League’s financial rules for the three-year period ending 2024-25. The league allows for maximum losses of £105 million over this period, excluding investments in areas like infrastructure and youth development.

Previously, Chelsea reported a profit of £128.4 million, boosted by the sale of its women’s team.
