Masked Israeli settlers attacked a convoy carrying European diplomats and officials on Saturday in Taybeh, a largely Christian village in the occupied West Bank. The attack targeted vehicles from the French, Belgian, and Polish missions, as well as Catholic representatives.
Witnesses reported that the settlers descended on the village to stop Palestinians from gathering olives. During the assault, the settlers targeted Belgium's consul general and diplomats from France and Poland, and beat up a French mayor.
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot condemned the attack and attributed the violence to Israel's illegal settlement policy. Prevot has pledged to push for further European Union sanctions in response to the incident.
