As opposition toward AI grows among voters and populations across the United States, the president is calling for federal oversight of the industry.
Despite these measures, Trump continues to push tech companies to race ahead with development. He has remained critical of suggestions to slow down the fast-moving industry, even as members of his own party have counseled caution and industry figures have sounded alarms regarding safety.
A growing chorus of lawmakers and industry leaders have called for policing the technology and moving more slowly. In a Truth Social post, Trump dismissed fears that artificial intelligence could become a superintelligence posing a threat to human existence, calling such warnings a hoax. He further claimed, without evidence, that the AI backlash is a Democratic hoax, vowing instead to cherish and help the industry.
