Paris Saint-Germain secured their fifth consecutive and 14th overall Ligue 1 title with a 2-0 victory away at their nearest challengers, Lens, on Wednesday. The win in their penultimate match of the season puts the Paris club on 76 points, leaving Lens on 67 points and assured of second place.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the 29th minute, and substitute Ibrahim Mbaye added a second goal in stoppage time at the 90+3 mark. Despite being pushed hard by Lens at the Stade Bollaert, Luis Enrique’s side maintained their lead to clinch the crown.
Manager Luis Enrique noted that the victory demonstrated the team's mentality to win even when on the back foot. Throughout the season, the club performed a balancing act between their domestic campaign and Champions League ambitions.
The reigning European champions continue their pursuit of a historic treble-winning season and will face Arsenal in the Champions League final on May 30. Meanwhile, Lens will have another opportunity for glory in the Coupe de France final next Friday.
