President Trump has sharply criticized NATO allies, labeling them “cowards” due to their refusal to assist in securing the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway remains blocked following the start of the conflict with Iran.
The President’s denouncement comes after European officials declined to send naval forces to the region, despite calls for support in guaranteeing safe shipping passage. Trump also expressed frustration over the lack of backing for the U.S.-Israel war against Iran.
Trump stated it would be “so easy” for allies to provide assistance with “so little risk.” The comments were made as NATO is in the process of relocating personnel from Iraq.
Israel has confirmed it is continuing to strike targets described as “infrastructure” within Tehran.
