Algeria has decided to sever diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, announcing the move after the exhaustion of all available avenues to preserve bilateral ties.
As part of the decision, Algeria has banned Emirati civilian and military aircraft from its airspace, citing provocative and hostile acts. Commercial flights to Algiers are exempt from this restriction until the end of 2026.
Relations between the two nations have been strained for years due to differing positions on several regional issues. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has previously accused the UAE of meddling in Algeria's internal affairs and engaging in destabilizing activities in countries including Libya, Sudan, and Mali.
