Man fleeing immigration officers in Florida killed by tractor trailer

crime & law

A 28-year-old man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on Tuesday morning in St. Augustine, Florida, while fleeing from federal immigration agents. The incident occurred before 7 a.m. in the parking lot of a gas station and convenience store.

The man was one of four occupants of a vehicle encountered by agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations. All four individuals fled on foot, and one darted across a busy road into the path of a semi truck. The driver of the truck stopped and attempted to help the man, who died at the scene.

This incident marks the third death in about a week involving encounters with federal immigration agents, following shootings in Texas and Maine. Neither Immigration and Customs Enforcement nor the Department of Homeland Security immediately returned requests for comment.
