A federal jury in North Carolina has found rideshare giant Uber liable for the behavior of a driver who sexually assaulted a passenger. The driver grabbed the woman's inner thigh as she was leaving the front seat of his car and asked her if he could "keep her" with him.

The jury ordered Uber to pay $5,000 to the woman, who booked the trip through the company's app.

This bellwether case is part of a broader group of sexual assault lawsuits filed against the company in multiple jurisdictions around the country. It marks the third such case to go to trial.

Uber has now lost the first two of more than 3,000 pending federal lawsuits as the company faces thousands of similar claims.
