Salesforce signed a definitive agreement on Monday to acquire Fin, an autonomous AI agent platform, for approximately $3.6 billion. The move is intended to help the software company win new business for enterprise AI as technology firms compete to roll out usage-based autonomous digital workers across enterprises.

Fin, formerly known as Intercom, develops AI customer agents capable of handling support queries end-to-end across various channels, including live chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS, phone, and Slack. Salesforce plans to integrate Fin's team and technology into Agentforce, its fast-growing platform that allows businesses to build custom AI agents to automate tasks.

Following the completion of the acquisition, the companies will expand options for deploying AI agents in customer service, enabling customers to incorporate them into existing systems. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce's fiscal year 2027. Salesforce indicated that the transaction will not result in changes to the company's forecast or capital return program.
