Child development experts are calling on Google and YouTube to restrict AI-generated videos from being shown to or recommended for young viewers. Concerns center around the increasing popularity of these videos targeting toddlers and other children on both YouTube and YouTube Kids.
Advocacy groups have criticized the platform for presenting low-quality, AI-created content to its youngest audience. A coalition of 200 organizations, led by Fairplay, recently wrote to YouTube and Google expressing these concerns.
Fairplay’s research indicates that only 5% of all videos on YouTube are considered high-quality content, raising questions about the material being accessed by children. Experts are urging the platform to take action to protect young users.
