A boat capsized in a river in Nigeria’s northwestern Sokoto state, resulting in dozens of deaths. Reports indicate the vessel was overloaded at the time of the accident.

At least 50 people have died in the incident, many of whom are reportedly children. A local official at the inland waterways authority stated that around 40 bodies of children have been recovered so far.
