U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he will discuss artificial intelligence with Chinese President Xi Jinping when the Chinese leader visits the United States on September 24. Trump noted that the topic was previously discussed during his visit to Beijing, where he extended the invitation for President Xi to visit the White House.
The discussions regarding artificial intelligence are a significant outcome of the Trump-Xi summit in May and may take place before the planned September 24 visit. This state visit will be President Xi's first trip to Washington since the Obama administration.
To prepare for the event, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke on Wednesday. They discussed identifying areas of cooperation to lay the groundwork for a very positive visit.
